Questions & Answers:

What is the Community Eligibility Provision program? (CEP)

The Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) is a meal service option that allows schools and school districts to serve breakfast and lunch at no cost to all enrolled students without the burden of certifying students for meal benefits. Schools that adopt the CEP are reimbursed using a formula based on the percentage of students who are normally certified for free school meals, without an application.

Who is eligible for free meals?

All students enrolled in the Joseph School District are able to get one free breakfast and one free lunch at their school each day. If a student wants to purchase anything extra, it will be charged to their account as long as they have a positive balance.

How can I donate to the school cafeteria?

Donations are accepted at the main office. We currently have unpaid meal balances from the prior school year. Thank you for making a difference!

Can a student still get a school meal if they brought a meal from home?

-Yes, enrolled students are always welcome to get a complete breakfast or lunch at school regardless of what they brought from home.

My student has a positive balance on their account. What can I do?

You do not have to do anything, unless you want to. All money on a student’s SchoolCafe account may be refunded if you do not wish to use it for a la carte purchases. It can also be directed to a sibling account or donated to pay off other student's negative balances.

Can students have more than one meal if they are still hungry?

Just like the free and reduced meal program, students can get one free breakfast and one free lunch per day. Most schools also have a sharing table which students are encouraged to utilize if they are still hungry but don’t need a full second meal.

Second meals, extra milks, and a la carte items, such as second entrees, for an individual student will be charged to their meal account so long as they have a positive balance.
